Attica, Ohio: 16 drivers made the trek to the famed Attica raceway where this multi-grooved track usually makes for some exciting racing.
In heat #1 JW would get to the point early and Wheel followed closely by Rampage. A 4 car battle would insure for the final transfer spot with Rac, Tony, Shock, and Wheel. Tony would get loose and hit the light tower and come back onto the track still in the 3rd position.
However in turn 1n2 he would be forced up and off the track when Shock and Rac got side by side making it 3 wide and just not enough room for Tony. Wheel would use this to get by all 3 drivers and get the final transfer spot.
Heat 2 would be another 4 way battle with McGee, D5, Jim, and Ice all swapping paint for the 3 transfer spots. McGee would stay smooth and consistent while picking up the win followed by D5 and Jim. Ice would be left out in the cold and have to run the “B”
The “Snicker’s Dash” would see JW lead from start to finish but Rampage was able to stay with him but would settle for 2nd. McGee would stay steady in 3rd. Wheel would take home 4th with D5 and Jim rounding out the top 5.
The “B” Main would see the top 2 drivers in the points trying to make it to the “A” Main with Shock and Ice. Shock would get the jump on the start and Ice would give him room and be content to stay in 2nd and make sure of the transfer spot.
Rac would get to 3rd while KP would stay with him and grab the 4th and final transfer spot. Tony would make a hard charge but come up just short of advancing by finishing 6th.
The “A” Main would roll off with JW and Rampage on the front row. JW would get out front but Rampage would stay right with him looking for an opening to get to the front. By lap 6 Shock had made his way through the field from 7th to 3rd and looking to do battle with the top 2 drivers. By lap 10 it was a 4 driver battle with JW leading Rampage, Shock, and Wheel.
Lap 14 would see some sparks fly when Shock would get into the back of JW going into turn 1. JW would save his car from spinning out and check up and Shock and Rampage would slow to keep from having an accident. This was the opening that Wheel needed to get to the lead.
Shock would fall from 2nd to 8th after going through the infield. Wheel would start to extend his lead while JW and Rampage would battle for 2nd. Ice would find his way to 4th after getting around D5 and Shock going to the infield.
On lap 26 Rampage would get a run on JW and drive it hard into turn 3, thus turning JW but he was able to save it again and this would put Rampage up to 2nd. Ice was able to catch up to JW for an instant for 3rd but JW was once again able to distance himself and Ice would continue to run 4th while Shock was picking off McGee and D5.
The final laps would run down with Wheel pulling away for a comfortable win and with the win Wheel moved to 2nd in the WFO points this year. Rampage would finish 2nd and JW would motor home in 3rd. Shock would be able to get around Ice in the final laps for 4th and Ice would bring home another top 5.
D5 would get 6th and fan favorite McGee would grab 7th. KP would finish 8th in his WFO debut with Rac finishing 9th. Jim would have motor problems and finish 10th but it was the 2nd straight feature the IFRT driver has made this year.
After the race in the WFO van it was decided that JW and Rampage would swap positions for their altercation. JW would get the 2nd spot and Rampage would receive 3rd.
We caught up to Wheel after the race and the Wisconsin Phenom was very excited. “Last week I was able to get that King Kong of a monkey off my back and this week I make it 2 in a row. I was able to get lucky in the heat and the feature with cars would get together giving me a free pass and once I got to the lead in the feature you could bet your sweet ass I wasn’t going to give it back.
JW also was pleased with the finish, "Man it was a rough night but I was able to garner a 2nd place finish. Got some body work to do this week but I’m going to try to make it back next week."
Point’s leader Shock was quoted “Talk about your roller coaster days. I kind of got into Ice a little when I went around him and for that I was sorry, I really tried to get around him clean since we were sitting 1-2 in the points. I talked to him after the race and he seemed to be ok with everything so I think it’s a non-issue really.”
Come out next week as the WFO Tour rolls into Knox Day at the historic track in Knoxville, Iowa.
