This sunday, there is a double header at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Both IFRT and VLR are running Gen5s on the track. The Gypsum Racing Team is proud to announce that they will continue to sponsor the #68 machine driven by ERL J-MAC, and the team will be out and shaking down the 2013 equipment. The team is returning in the 2013 season with brand new Rocket Chassis as well as a new and updated engine package. As well as returning for late model racing, Gypsum will be providing J-MAC with USMTS modifieds, 360 and 410 sprint cars, as well as New 2013X Bicknell Modifieds.
DTR2 News caught up with the dirt star J-MAC and asked him about the new deal that was just announced.
"I couldn't be more thankful for what these guys have done for me in 2012. They came in and re-energized me late in 2011 when I felt like I didn't stand a chance. I was running out of money and my racing equipment could barely get thru the 12 lap heat races let alone surviving in a 40+ lap A main. These guys gave me great stuff and it got me back in the game. Because of them, I was able to get my own stuff like my [BLS] Superstock and my own [Big Block] Mod up and running. I picked up my first career A main win in my own car (at Capital V2 in a BLS Superstock), and then followed it up with 2 wins in Gypsum race cars (big block win at Canandaigua and a sprint win at Knoxville). I'm honored to be apart of the gypsum organization once again."
When asked about his racing team, Team ERL:
"Just after the Gypsum guys came around and got me going again, I figured that if I wanted to move anywhere in this, I needed a group of guys to help me get everything in the right direction. I needed to know how to drive all these different tracks we head out to night after night. I thought of the high caliber teams like BLS and XCR, but those guys were already way up above me and I wouldn't really help them by slowing them down any. I knew that the name "J-MAC" really didn't yet deserve to be up with the likes of names like "Jsn", "F1", "Bullet" and "BW". I could barely keep up in these guys' draft let alone run with them competetively. As I sat back and looked around, I noticed another team. ERL. I made my racing debut and made an ERL A main. I won my first heat race at an ERL event. So I took a shot, half expecting to be turned down. I went up to [Team ERL President] BullDog and I asked. After what felt like forever, and a few sessions of phone tag, I got my acceptance and I was on Team ERL for the 2012 season. From then on, I did everything I could to be smoother, cleaner and faster, as to not bring any bad words to the ERL name. These guys took a shot on a rookie and it all worked out for the best. I can't wait to race these guys again and try to bring them some more wins in 2013."
Rumor is that the Gypsum team has been attempting to contact Driver XCR Geisler to see if he would also like to drive another Gypsum car for the 2013 season. We asked the gypsum team if there was truth to this but they declined to give an answer. Also XCR Geisler was unavailable to comment.
