this is one of the tracks i have started working on for dtr2
Nascar Historic dirt oval Track in Arkansas
Memphis-ArkansasNascar Speedway, 1.5 mile high banked dirt oval
The track opened on October 9th, 1954, and operated until 1957, when it was sold to a local farmer.
The owners intended to pave the track but could not afford the $100,000 price tag, and the dirt surface proved to be unmanageable.
The NASCAR Grand National circuit visited the track several times in 1955 and 1956

here some more stuff about this track i found
Clint McHugh from Iowa (who tumbled over a guard rail and into a lake 50 feet below the embankment at the age of 28)
and Cotton Priddy (from Louisville, Kentucky) are the two race car drivers who lost their lives on this allegedly dangerous race track.
Since the 1960s, the track was never used for its intended purpose of stock car racing.
At a race held on November 1954, twelve thousand fans would attend a race spanning 250 miles (400 km)
where Buck Baker would end up winning the 1954 running of the Mid-South 250.

Richard Petty and his father Lee both remember the high banking that this race track had. The dirt was used for the banking and two ponds were on opposite ends of the speedway. In fact, Lee Petty would finish in third place at the 1954 Mid-South 250 and nineteenth place at the 1955 Mid-South 250.

The track that hosted five NASCAR races between 1954 and 1957 may have been 1.5 miles in length,
but it was definitely no cookie-cutter oval.
It was a high-banked dirt track that demanded a combination of bravery and skill.

Fonty Flock’s pole-winning speed of 100.39 mph for the October 1955 race stands as the only time a driver eclipsed the century barrier there,
but the races were almost as fast, with three of the five averaging more than 80 mph. The top drivers of the day were up to the challenge,
as 52 cars started the 1954 Mid-South 250 — and winners there included Buck Baker, Fonty Flock, Speedy Thompson, Ralph Moody and Marvin Panch.

The track closed shortly after the 1957 race when a highway construction project blocked access.
When the project was completed, the track was abandoned.
One later report claimed a farmer was using the former track’s infield ponds for catfish.
